Abstract: |
Some methods for pulse-taking can be traced back to "Internal Canon of the Yellow Emperor". Slow pulse and rapid pulse were commonly pulse conditions and their diagnosis was of great importance in clinical practice. Traditional Chinese sphygmology was written elegantly in an ancient style with profound meanings. Despite continuous attempts to offer explanations, as a result of a prolonged period of time, it was inevitable to have numerous cases where original meanings remain to be discovered. This article, through a textual research on pulse-feeling theory, traces their origin and draws the conclusion that slow pulse and rapid pulse should be defined according to the ratio of respiration and pulse in patients, rather than defined according to their pulse rate only. |
