Abstract:
Depression,a globally prevalent mental disorder, involves multifaceted pathological mechanisms such as neuroinflammation, imbalance of monoamine neurotransmitters, abnormal synaptic plasticity, and dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Conventional antidepressants face limitations, including unstable efficacy, drug dependence, and osteogenic suppression, necessitating the exploration of novel therapeutic strategies. In recent years, stem cells have demonstrated unique potential in depression treatment due to their properties of self-renewal, multipotent differentiation, and homing effects. This article systematically reviews the core mechanisms by which stem cells exert antidepressant effects through neuronal regeneration, neurotransmitter balance, and immunomodulation. Additionally,it explores the feasibility of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)in modulating stem cell functions to alleviate depressive symptoms, aiming to provide innovative insights and theoretical foundations for depression treatment.
