Abstract

[Objective] To study the slgnlficance of Chlamydia pneumonlae (C.pneumonlae) during the course offormatlon and development of atherosclerosls from the pathology and hlstology.[Methods] A total of 960 pathologcal samples from 100 autopsled Japanese patlents were examlned by lmmunohlstochemlstry (IHC) and polymerase chaln reactlon (PCR).The detectable frequency of C.pneumonlae as well as atherosclerostlc Intlmal leslon type were observed, and thelr assoclatlon was forther analyzed.[Results] C.pneumonlae was detected In 76 out of 100 cases (by IHC and PCR),53 by IHC and 43 by PCR.There was no significant statistical difference in the detectable frequency of C.pneumoniae between different sex or age.In analyses exclusive for the 76 C.pneumoniae-positive cases, the detectable frequency of C.pneumoniae detection was the highest in the initial lesion and fatty streak lesion, and thereafter decreased with progression of aortic atherosclerosls.[Conclusion] The detectable frequency of C.pneumonlae does not assoclate with Progresslon of intlmal lesion in aorta. The role of C.pneumoniae in aortic atherosclerosis development is confined mostly to the early stage. |
