Effect of magnetized Huoxue Tongluo Ling decotion on rapid bone loss in ovariectomized rats

Abstract
    [Objective] To observe the effect of magnetized Huoxue Tongluo Ling (MHTL) on the bone mineral density, bone histomorphology and bone biomechanics of female ovariectomized rats, and to explore its effect on rapid bone loss and prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.[Methods] Eighty-four SPF grade SD magnetic rats were randomly divided into blank control group and ovariectomized control group, ovariectomized and alendronate sodium group, ovariectomized and MHTL group, emagnetized group 1, magnetized group 2, magnetized group 3, with 12 each group. Besides the blank control group, the rats were divided into two groups according to the method of ovariectomy. On the third day after modeling, the corresponding intervention factors were applied to each group. Five weeks after surgery, we took collect specimens of blood for bone metabolism test, with 6~8 rats each group, for bone metabolism indicators. Six rats were sacrificed at 6 weeks after operation, and the bone histomorphometry was performed. Eighteen weeks after surgery, according to the law, we took collect specimens of blood again, with the former method of detection. After the execution, it was took the lower limb femur for bone mineral density, bone histomorphology, bone biomechanics.[Results] Compared with the control group, the results from the rats treated by MHTL, were obtained from bone metrology, bone density measurement, Micro-CT and mechanical three-point bending test (P<0.05). It was found that it could improve the microstructure of cancellous bone trabecula and improve the mechanical properties of cortical bone. From the large amount of experimental data obtained from bone metrology, bone density measurement, Micro-CT and mechanical three-point bending test, compared with the ovariectomized group. The rats, treated with magnetized Huoxue Tongluo ling decotion was found that its microstructure of cancellous bone trabecula and the mechanical properties of cortical bone can be improve obviously.[Conclusion] The experimental results show that the effect of MHTL on delaying bone loss, especially in bone mineral density, bone histomorphology and bone biomechanics, is effective in preventing and treating osteoporosis.
