Abstract
[Objective] To explore whether the combined application of Scutellaria baicalensis and zinc gluconate has a synergistic antibacterial effect on pathogenic bacteria of acne. [Methods] The antibacterial activity of single or combined application of Scutellaria baicalensis and zinc gluconate against pathogenic bacteria of acne were measured by the Oxford Cup method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Scutellaria baicalensis, zinc gluconate and combined application were carried out by the micro-dilution method and checkerboard method, respectively. The Fractional Inhibitory Concentration Index (FICI) was calculated to determine their interaction. Furthermore, the synergistic effect of the optimized combination was evaluated through the time-growth curve. [Results] The antibacterial activity of combined application of Scutellaria baicalensis and zinc gluconate against pathogenic bacteria of acne was significantly stronger than single application. The MIC for combined application were both decline. The FICI of combined application on staphylococcus aureus was 0.75,which showed partial synergistic effect, the FICI of combined application on propionibacterium acne was 0.25,which showed synergistic effect. It has a more sustained antibacterial effect on acne pathogenic bacteria under the combined application. [Conclusion] The combined application of Scutellaria baicalensis and zinc gluconate has significant synergistic antibacterial effect on acne pathogens, which can provide some references for developing new drugs.
