Abstract
Secondary metabolites are natural organic compounds produced in the long-term evolution of plants to adapt to the ecological environment,In recent years, with the development of biotechnology, the economic and medicinal value of plant secondary metabolites have attracted more and more attention. Mass production is steadily growing while the enhancement of production of target products is still a tough matter as the complexity of some important secondary metabolite chemical construction, synthetic pathway and low content in plants. abscisic acid (ABA) is an important plant hormone regulating growth and development,it can rely on its own synthetic pathway, signal transduction, and hormone interactions to regulate the production of secondary metabolites. This article reviews the new progress of ABA in biosynthesis, catabolism, and signalling transduction, and summarizes the regulation of different types of secondary metabolites by ABA,and it provides a basis for rational use of plant hormones to increase the yield of plant secondary metabolites.
