Abstract
Bronchial asthma is a common chronic respiratory disease, with oxidative stress, inflammation damage and airway remodeling playing a role in the entire process of asthma pathogenesis. Nuclear factor E2 related factor 2(Nrf2) is a critical transcription factor inside cells that not only activates various antioxidant enzymes, reduces reactive oxygen species release, and relieves oxidative stress, but also regulates immune inflammation, mitochondrial function, iron death processes, and thus alleviates inflammation damage and airway remodeling. In recent years, studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) can exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects by activating the Nrf2 pathway, which in turn can effectively prevent and control bronchial asthma. In this study,we review the progress of experimental research on the modulation of Nrf2 pathway by Chinese medicine in the treatment of bronchial asthma in the past 5 years, aiming to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of asthma with TCM.
