Abstract
    Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) identification is a crucial step in ensuring the safety of TCM use. Molecular identification of TCM involves analyzing genetic material differences, which helps to overcome the subjectivity of traditional identification methods and serves as a complement to TCM identification. The amplicon sequencing technique amplifies specific gene fragments and combines various sequencing technologies for species identification. This review summarizes and analyzes the advantages of amplicon sequencing technology in biological identification, its applications in TCM and Chinese patent medicine, and the key technical steps in TCM identification using amplicon sequencing. It also examines the current status and future development of amplicon sequencing technology in molecular identification of TCM, providing research insights for future work in this field.
