Abstract
Oxidative stress is a state caused by an imbalance between oxidation and antioxidant defense, which can lead to severe cellular damage and play a driving role in the progression and deterioration of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). The NF-E2-related factor 2(Nrf2)/antioxidant response element(ARE) signaling pathway is one of the most important antioxidant signaling pathways in the human body for maintaining redox balance. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in improving the prognosis of COPD and lung function by activating Nrf2-related signaling pathways. However, there is a lack of summarization and discussion regarding the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine in COPD treatment based on the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway. Therefore, this article provides an overview of recent research on the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway and the research progress of TCM in the treatment of COPD based on Nrf2,aiming to provide insights for clinical and basic research on the prevention and treatment of COPD using TCM.
