Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),often characterized by obesity, frequently corresponds to spleen deficiency and phlegm dampness syndrome. According to Jin Gui Yao Lue,patients with phlegm and fluid retention should be treated with warming medicines. The use of these warming medicines aims to enhance the warming effect of kidney yang, thereby improving spleen function, promoting water metabolism, and facilitating the transformation and warming of phlegm and fluids. Mitochondria, the primary site for oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production, serve as the cell’s energy source. Their functions, including oxidative energy supply, metabolic regulation, protein synthesis, maintenance of cellular functions, and facilitation of energy metabolism, are akin to the effects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) yang qi in promoting growth, development, organ function,as well as the production and circulation of blood and body fluids. This article presents a novel perspective on treating phlegm-dampness type PCOS by enhancing mitochondrial function with warm medicine, seeking to provide a foundation and direction for interpreting the material basis of TCM and the clinical application of warm medicine in PCOS.
