Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) is a complex metabolic disorder with complex pathogenesis, which is prone to cause a variety of complications and seriously threatens human health. While traditional therapeutic drugs play a hypoglycemic role, most of them will produce serious side effects and induce diabetic complications, while some alkaloids with hypoglycemic effects have attracted people’s attention because of their advantages of wide range of sources and low toxic side effects. At present,a large number of literature has reported that alkaloids have good hypoglycemic activity and can actively treat diabetic complications. In this paper,we summarize the representative alkaloid monomer components, such as berberine,1-deoxynojirimycin,dendrobine,matrine,etc.,and review the pharmacological mechanism of their pharmacological effects in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications. In order to provide a theoretical reference for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and its complications and the development of alkaloid drugs.
