Abstract
Dementia is a neurodegenerative disease centered on acquired cognitive impairment, with memory loss as the first symptom, and severely affecting the patient’s daily life and ability to work, and can be categorized as “dementia” in traditional Chinese medicine. In the process of screening and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease,Chinese and Western medicine practitioners often use scales to assess the impairment of cognitive function. In this paper,we review the scales commonly used in recent years to evaluate memory function in Alzheimer’s disease, including the Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE),Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA),Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive(ADAS-Cog),Clinical Dementia Assessment(CDR),Wechsler Memory Scale(WMS),and the Huashan Auditory Verbal Learning Test(AVLT-H),with a view to providing a more appropriate assessment scale for clinical staff to select in memory clinics and to provide a more accurate assessment of memory function to provide a basis for choosing more appropriate assessment scales for clinical staff in memory clinics.
