Abstract
    The article summarizes the clinical experience of ZHANG Zhen,a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine,in treating skin diseases using insect and cortex medicinal pairs. Professor ZHANG utilizes Cicadae Periostracum(Chan Tui) and Lycii Cortex(Di Gu Pi) to dispel wind and promote eruption,mainly for conditions where wind pathogen attacks the exterior and the interstices are insecure;Pheretima(Di Long) and Mori Cortex(Sang Bai Pi) to clear heat,unblock collaterals,promote diuresis,and reduce swelling,primarily for damp-heat accumulation;Bombyx Batryticatus(Jiang Can) and Dictamni Cortex(Bai Xian Pi) to resolve phlegm,disperse nodules,eliminate dampness,and remove toxins,mainly for phlegm-dampness and blood stasis obstruction;Scolopendra(Wu Gong) and Fraxini Cortex(Qin Pi) to extinguish wind,relieve convulsions,clear heat,and remove toxins,for pustular skin diseases caused by intense heat-toxin;Scorpio(Quan Xie) and Moutan Cortex(Mu Dan Pi) to extinguish wind,relieve convulsions,cool blood,and disperse stasis,mainly for wind generated from blood deficiency;and Eupolyphaga(Tu Bie Chong) and Acanthopanacis Cortex(Wu Jia Pi) to expel stasis,unblock collaterals,tonify deficiency,and support the healthy qi,for refractory skin diseases involving a mixture of stasis and deficiency.
