Abstract
The high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)is still the most important health concern of the people, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Atherosclerosis is one of the underlying pathological factors of cardiovascular diseases. N6-methyladenosine(m6A)methylation modification,as the most common epigenetic modification of RNA in eukaryotic cells, has been found to play a key role in the development of atherosclerosis in recent years. Studies have shown that m6A can participate in the pathological progression of atherosclerosis by regulating inflammatory responses, lipid metabolism disorders and other processes. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has demonstrated the advantage of multi-target regulation in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis(AS),and some of the active ingredients and compound preparations of TCM can intervene in AS- related signaling pathways by regulating the expression of m6A-related enzymes or RNA modification levels. However, the study of m6A intervention by TCM is still in the initial stage, and the mechanism of action and the material basis of pharmacological effect need to be analyzed in depth by combining various techniques. In the future,it is necessary to integrate the theories of epigenetics and traditional Chinese medicine to promote the development of precise therapeutic strategies for AS.
