| Abstract
|
| The principle of “simply promoting urination” originates from Synopsis of the Golden Chamber. The small intestine governs liquids and has the function of separating the clear from the turbid. Therefore, the goal of “promoting urination” can be achieved by “regulating the small intestine”. This article explores the visceral functions of the small intestine by reviewing ancient literature, revealing its close relationship with the spleen, kidney, and heart. Syndromes related to the small intestine compiled from Synopsis of the Golden Chamber can be summarized into three major categories:water and fire, anterior and posterior, and clear and turbid. Clinically, applying the concept of “regulating the small intestine” has yielded positive therapeutic outcomes in treating rheumatoid arthritis, hemorrhoids, cirrhotic ascites, benign prostatic hyperplasia, diabetic nephropathy, and functional diarrhea. |
