Abstract
Banxia Xiexin Decoction is a representative herbal formula in Treatise on Febrile Diseases used to treat complex cases of mixed cold and heat with focal distension. This formula, along with Xiaochaihu Decoction, falls under the category of "half-exterior,half-interior harmonizing formulas" within the context of the syndrome differentiation of six channels theory. In this article,we delve into a finer differentiation of the "half-exterior,half-interior" conformation by subdividing it into "predominantly half-exterior" and "predominantly half-interior". Through an analysis of classical texts and relevant literature, explore the theoretical origins of the "predominantly half-interior" conformation. By comparing the locations of pathological changes and primary symptoms between the "predominantly half-exterior" and "predominantly half-interior" conformations, elucidate the pathogenesis of Banxia Xiexin Decoction syndrome. Furthermore, from the perspective of harmonizing imbalances in the"predominantly half-interior" conformation, draw a comparative analysis with Xiaochaihu Decoction to clarify the prescription guidelines of Banxia Xiexin Decoction. The effort ultimately provides a more precise clinical approach to diagnosing and treating conditions associated with the "predominantly half-interior" conformation and offers valuable insights for the clinical application and research of Banxia Xiexin Decoction.
