| Abstract
|
| [Objective] To investigate the differences in tongue manifestations between patients with hypertension complicated by diabetes mellitus and those with hypertension alone, thereby providing a reference for diagnosis and syndrome differentiation in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. [Methods] A clinical epidemiological study was conducted on patients from the Department of Cardiology,Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Basic information and tongue manifestation characteristics were collected from 4 942 patients with hypertension or hypertension complicated by diabetes, and the differences in tongue features were analyzed. [Results] Significant differences were observed in the distribution of tongue colors between the two groups, specifically in crimson tongue and petechial tongue(P<0.05). For tongue shapes, significant differences were found in prickled tongue and fissured tongue(P<0.05). Regarding coating color, significant differences were noted in white coating and gray coating(P<0.05). In terms of coating quality, significant differences were observed in thin, thick, scant, peeled, slippery, and greasy coatings(P<0.05). [Conclusion] The study indicates distinct differences in tongue manifestation characteristics between patients with hypertension alone and those with hypertension complicated by diabetes mellitus, which can provide valuable insights for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of this condition using an integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach. |
