Abstract
The doctrine of "Wu yun Liu Qi"(Five Elements’ Motion and Six Kinds of Weather) summaried Chinese astronomy, climatology, calendar and phenology and was used in philosophy and medical field during Chunqiu(Spring and Autumn) and Zhanguo(Warring Stage). This doctrine became to be emphasized in Tang Dynasty and gained full development in Song Dynasty. For example, CHEN Wu-ze, the writer of San Yin Ji Yi Bing Zheng Fang Lun (Discussion of Pathology Based on the Triple-Etiology Doctrine), applied the theory in herbal treatment. WU Tang, a famous epidemic febrile disease doctor in Ming and Qing Dynasty, explored the factors of epidemics through the research of the doctrine of "Wu Yun Liu Qi".This year is charged by Taiyin-dampness-earth based on this doctrine. We are considering whether the gene mutation of SARS virus deals with this factor, and if the prescription principle of "drying and warming even diaphoresis and purgation by drugs with bitter flavor" can be used to guide the herbal treatment of SARS.The doctrine of "Wu Yun Liu Qi" may offer some ideas to the research and treatment of SARS.
