Abstract
    Depression remains the emotional disease in TCM.It is a complex thymogenic mental upset including many kinds of emotional and somatic symptoms.Although its clinical behaviors are different,there is an identical cause,i.e.emotional disturbance.Visceral dysfunctions mainly manifested as qi stagnation and qi reverse are the common pathogenesis.Com-bining with blood stasis,stagnant phlegm and cold-heat it will resulted in disease.The dysfunction of qi activity is the es-sential pathogenesis.Depression-related illnesses in TCM can be found unevenly in the ancient medical books.They are depressed syndrome,depressed psychosis,globus hysteritis,lily disease and hysteria etc.The basis therapeutic principle is to regulate qi,to lower the adverse rise of energy and eliminate the stagnation.
