Abstract
    The argument has illustrated the definition and connotation of the basic theory in traditional Chinese medicine, and pointed out the differentiation between Chinese medicine and western medicine. The developing rule of the basic theory in Chinese medicine has been explored and its inevitability analyzed. The precondition of the development of the basic theory in Chinese medicine is consistent with the rule of the branch of knoqledge itself, and its development must dependent upon the clinic practice. In the course of development,some hypotheses should be put forward, the research approach of multi-branch and multi-way intervention should be applied. A few concept should be clarified, its using language should be normalized and the guidance from modern philosophy accepted.
