| Abstract

| [Objective] Through the changes of the plasma ET and 5-HT observed in patients with tension headache the therapeutic mechanism of Tongmai TiaoQi promoting blood circulation and regulating Qi massage was explored. [Methods] The content of the plasma ET and 5-HT were determined before,after the first treatment and after the total treatment course in 150 cases with tension headache. All cases were treated for a treatment course 10 days with a massage once a day. [Results] Before the remedy there was a significant difference in plasma ET and 5-HT between the treatment and control group P<0.01. After the first remedy and after the course of treatment the patients’ ET and 5-HT were notably decreased P<0.01 when compared with those before treatment. [Conclusion] The mechanism of Tongmai Tiaoqi massage may be related to the reducing of the plasma ET and 5-HT. |
