Abstract
|
State Food and Pharmaceutical Administration has decided to substitute Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae for Radix Aristolochiae Fangchi. However, some atte ntions must be paid to 1) The distribution of the nitro-phenanthrene in Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae. 2) The toxicity of other aristolochines except aristolochic acid I and its derivatives. 3) The great and rapid toxicity of Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae. It is not known as yet if the toxicity is related to the overlapped toxic effect of the Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae and the nitro-phenanthrene. The experimental basis should be established for scientific evaluation on the safety of Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae and its substitute Radix Aristolochiae Fangchi. |
