Effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao Acupuncture on Expression of ICAM-1 and P-selectin after Cerebral Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rat

Abstract
    [Objective] To explore the mechanism of Xiangnao kaiqiao (represhment and Inducing resuscitation) acupuncture against cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury.[Methods] The cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury was established by lineembolism of cerebral middle artery. The expression of ICAM-1 and P-selectin mRNA and protein in ischemic cerebral cortex and corpus striatum in rat was observed after 1 h of cerebral ischemia and 3,6,12,24 and 48 h of reperfusion by in situ hybridizatioin and immunohistochemistry.[Results] The mRNA expression of ICAM-1 and P-selectin was found at the capillary endothelial cells in the postischemia cerebral cortex 3 h after reperfusion and peaked at 12 h and 6~12 h respectively P<0.01 and increased continually during 48 reperfusion. Both expressions of mRNA and protein of ICAM and P-selectin in ischemia cerebral cortex were down-regulated considerably by Xiangnao Kaiqiao acupuncture P<0.01.[Conclusion] The Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture method may prevent and cure the cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury by down-regulating the expression of mRNA and protein of ICAM-1 and P-selectin in ischemia cerebral cortex.
