Abstract
|
[Objective] To explore the effect of Houttuynia cordata Thunb(HCT)on the expression of transform growth factor β1(TGF-β1)and bone morphogenetic protein-7(BMP-7)of renal tissue in diabetic rats.[Methods] Diabetes in rats was induced by intravenous injection of streptozotocin(STZ).They were randomly divided into model group,HCT group and lotensin group and normal control group.Eight weeks later the ratio of kidney weight to body weight, renal glomerular area, the excretion of β2-microglobin in urine collected for 24 hours, the clearance ratio(CCr)of albumin and creatinine in urine collected for 24 hrs were determined. The expression of TGF-β1 and BMP-7 in renal tissue was determined with immunohistochemistry.[Results] Administration of HCT could markedly inhibit the enlargement of renal glomeruli, decrease the excretory rate of β2-microglobin and urinary albumin and creatinine in urine collected for 24 hrs(CCr).The renal expression of TGF-β1 in HCT group decreased remarkably(P<0.05)while and BMP-7 increased obviously(P<0.05)in comparison with those in model group. There was no significant difference between HCT and lotensin groups(P>0.05).[Conclusions] Houttuynia cordata Thunb may protect against the renal lesion in diabetic rats through inhibiting the expression of TGF-β1 and enhancing the expression of BMP-7. |
