Abstract
    The morbidity of depression is being increased and causing the due attention has been paid to it from the whole society. The traditional Chinese medicine has especially superiority in treating this disease. It is considered that the position of depression exists in the brain and the pathogenesis is phlegm caused by stagnation of QI,deficiency of YIN-blood,deficiency of essence and marrow and interior heat caused by deficiency of YIN. Therefore,depression may be divided into three periods: the early stage is stagnation of liver-qi; the intermediate stage deficiency of both heart and spleen; the last stage deficiency of kidney.
