Effect of cornel total glycoside on bone metabolism and bone density in caponized rats

Abstract
    [Objective] To explore the mechanism of cornel total glycoside,the main effective component in Yishen Yanggan for oral use,in treating osteoporosis. [Methods] Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: sham operated group,model group,the high,middle and low dosage of cornel total glycoside group. Ca,P,E2 were determined and bone density experiment was carried out. [Results] The E2 content and bone density of cornel total glycoside group were obviously higher than that of model group. The blood Ca and P of cornel total glycoside group had not obvious difference when compared with that of model group. [Conclusions] The cornel total glycoside has bitter regulative effect on bone metabolism and bone density of caponized rats.
