Intervention of acupuncture on osteoporosis due to damaged arcuate nucleus in rats

Abstract
    [Objective] To explore the mechanism of acupuncture at Zusanli(ST36) on rats with osteoporosis due to damaged Arcuate nucleus.[Methods] Newborn Wistar rats were injected by 10% MSG(4 g/kg) s.c. once every other day until the 9th day after birth. Meanwhile,the rats in control group were given by equal volume of normal saline. Acupuncture treatment was carried out after surviving for 120 days,then rats were killed and the blood index was determined.[Results] BMC,BMD of acupuncture control group were significantly higher than that in acupuncture model group,the latter wasn’t significant when compared with control model group. The changes of the level of serum Ca,P,ALP,T,E2,L-1β,IL-6,GH in every groups were obvious and were related with the change of sex.[Conclusions] The hypothalamic arcuate nucleus may be the necessary part for the influence of acupuncture treatment on tibia amount in rats. The sex has significant influence on the effect of acupuncture.
