Abstract
The correlation between dampness-heat theory in Chinese medicine with acne was explored to guide the clinical treatment of acne. It was thought that among many patterns of acne in Malaysia Shireyunjie(stagnation of dampness-heat) was the main pathogenic pattern. The pathogenesis and mechanism of acne were considered to be Shireyundu, shirezhiyu (dampness leading to stasis) and shireduyu(dampness heat and toxic stases). In the treatment, eliminating dampness-heat and clearing heat, promoting detoxification and blood circulation were the main treatment methods. The critical point for an effective treatment will lie on the correct combined application of multi-method and with rational proportion for each method.
