Influence of Kechuan prescription on the pathological change of lung tissue in asthma guinea-pig

Abstract
    [Objective] To observe the influence of Kechuan prescription on the pathological change of the lung tissue in the asthma guinea-pig induced by egg protein provocation test. [Methods] Sixty normal guinea-pigs with average weight of (300±20)g were provided from the experimental animal centre of Tianjin Medical University. They were randomly divided into four groups: normal control group, model group, prednisone group and kechuan prescription group. The asthma in guinea-pig was induced with Lvbaozhang’s method. The experimental groups were administered with prednisone and kechuan prescription decoction respectively for 14 days. The pathological change of the lung tissue in the asthma guinea-pig was observed. [Results] The lung and bronchia of guinea-pigs in control group showed normal and intact bronchial epithelium. Alveolar septum was normal, and a small amounts of inflammatory cells infiltration was found. The bronchial lumens of guinea-pigs in model group were narrow, the bronchial wall was thickened, mucosal folds were increased, only part of mucosal folds was exfoliated; goblet cells were obviously increased, a lot of acidophilic granulocyte infiltration in the airway wall was seen. The alveolar septum was widened and there were acidophilic granulocyte in it; parts of alveolar space was shrink. The bronchial mucosal folds in prednisone group were increased, parts were exfoliated, bronchial wall was mildly thickened, and bronchial lumens were narrow. The bronchial epithelium in kechuan prescription group was mildly thickened, small amounts of inflammatory cells infiltration in the airway wall were found, alveolar septum was thinned, alveolar lumens tended to be normal, and there were small amounts of acidophilic granulocyte infiltration in it. [Conclusions] Kechuan prescription can obviously improve the pathological change of the lung tissue in the asthma guinea-pig, and its effect was superior than prednisone.
