The polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) was a disease of female reproductive endocrine system induced by many causes and had multiple clinical appearances with androgen excess, continued anovulation as the main clinical features. Its clinical syndrome was scanty menstruation and even amenorrhea, infertility, crinosity and obesity, companied a increased multicystic ovary and so on. Professor Hou Li-hui introduced a new theory of stagnation of phlegm and stagnation blood in the uterus based on his clinical experience and considered that the weak spleen and kidney deficiency, phlegm and blood stasis was the main pathogenesis of the disorder of ovulation in PCOS. Deficiency of kidney and stagnation blood, spleen deficiency and phlegm dampness, stagnation of Qi and blood stasis were the common clinical syndrome type. To explore the etiology and pathogenesis of Chinese medicine of PCOS from the sputum, stasis blood opened a new way for the treatment of PCOS.
