Abstract
|
[Objective] To investigate the effects of compound pinellia water extract on pulmonary symptoms including cough, asthma, and expectoration. [Methods] The effect of compound pinellia water extract on latent phase of asthma was studied in an asthma model induced by inhalation of acetylcholine chloride and histamine in guinea pig. Its effect on pulmonary outflow volume was explored with artificial pneumothorax followed by asthma. The effects on cough was studied by measuring the latent phase and frequency of cough induced by inhalation of alkaline air in mice. Effects of the extract on respiratory secretion were explored in mice by phenolsulfonphthalein secretion test. [Results] Compound pinellia water extract prolonged the latency of asthma in a dose-dependent manner. It could also significantly reduce the histamine-induced pulmonary overflow volume, prolong the latency of alkaline air-induced cough, reduce the frequency of cough, and increase the respiratory secretion of phenolsulfonphthalein. [Conclusion] Compound pinellia water extract exerts significant effects of anti-asthma, antitussive, and eliminating phlegm.. |
