Abstract
[Objective] To investigate the relationship between the scores of the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and seven factors and syndrome essence of traditional Chinese medicine. [Methods] HAME 24 items on patients in six centers at the same time (three months) were evaluated by the ways of epidemiological transect investigation, combining the disease and syndrome and the qualified clinician rate scale. The clinical experiences and syndrome-essences were collected.[Results] A total of 604 patients with depression were investigated: the total averaging HAMD score was 27.1457, the lowest was 8 point, the highest was 53 point; the syndrome-elements of location: liver was closely associated with the authentication factor, spleen was closely associated with the anxiety factor and weight factor; stomach was closely associated with the diurnal variation factors and sleep factor. The syndrome-elements of nature: Qi deficiency was closely associated with the weight factor; blood stasis was closely associated with the desperation factor; sputum and diurnal variation factor, retardation factor, desperation factor were closely associated. [Conclusion] Correlation analysis between syndrome essences and HAMD factors suggested that a close relationship between syndrome-essences and certain features in the psychopathology was existed. The main positions of disease syndrome factors were spleen, stomach and liver. The main pathology factors were phlegm and heat.
