Abstract
|
[Objective] To investigate the effect of psychotherapy in patients with generalized anxiety disorder.[Methods] Ninety-six patients with generalized anxiety disorder were randomly divided into two groups.A psychotherapy for 14 weeks was given to the patients in the treatment group and the patients in the control group were treated with aprazolam. The anxiety extent of all subjects was assessed by the Hamiltom Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS).[Results] In the treatment group there was a significant decrease in the anxiety scores before and after psychotherapy at the end of 14 weeks (HAMA:from 27.6±6.4 to 6.2±4.2;SAS:from 69.3± 9.8 to 30.6±7.1;P<0.01).No significant difference was found in the anxiety scores between the treatment group and the control group after psychotherapy (HAMA:6.2±4.2 vs 6.6±3.6;SAS:30.6±7.1 vs 31.5±6.3;P>0.05).[Conclusion] Psychotherapy is effective for the patients with generalized anxiety disorder. |
