Effect of Yiqi Huoxue Ruanjian and Jiedu prescriptions on inhibition of tumor growth and survival period in tumor-bearing mice

Abstract
    [Objective] To study the inhibitory effect on growth of tumor and observe the influence on survival period by using the decoction of Yiqi Huoxue Ruanjian Jiedu (YHRJ decoction) in treating the transplanted carcinoma (S180 and H22) in mice. [Methods] The mice transplanted with carcinoma (S180 or H22) were randomly divided into six groups,including NS control group,CTX or DDP group,YHRJ equivalent-dose group,YHRJ high-dose group,YHRJ equivalent-dose plus CTX (or DDP)group,YHRJ high-dose plus CTX (or DDP)group. All the mice in each group were administered from second day,and killed on the thirteenth day. At the same time the carcinoma was cut down and weighed. Observation of the survival time on Kunming Mice which was transplanted with H22 carcinoma was ended till any one mice died in control group. [Results] In the kunming model mice (S180) the weight of carcinoma in all medication groups was lower com-pared with NS control group. The inhibition rate of YHRJ high-dose group was 64.22%,and there was a significant difference when com-paring with NS control group and YHRJ equivalent-dose group. The inhibition rate of YHRJ high-dose plus CTX group was 80.10%,better than YHRJ equivalent-dose group and CTX (or DDP) group. In kunming model mice (H22) the inhibition rate in all medications groups was higher than 30% except for YHRJ equivalent-dose group. The inhibition rate of YHRJ high-dose group was 51.36%,which was higher than other groups. In the model mice (H22615) the inhibition rate of YHRJ equivalent-dose group was 47.15% and that of YHRJ high-dose plus DDP group was 80.60%. It indicated that Chinese herb could reinforce the curative effect. Observation of the influence on survival period showed that the survival time and the mean survival time in YHRJ high-dose group and the groups added by DDP were prolonged. The survival rate was enhanced. [Conclusion] It was proved that the YHRJ decoction could inhibit the growth of transplanted carcinoma (S180 or H22) in mice,and could prolong the survival time of kunming model mice.
