Abstract
[Objective] To observe the influence of acupuncture on the expression of IL-6 in brain tissue and serum in rats with focal cerebral ischemia.[Method] Focal cerebral ischemia in rat was established by obstructing one side middle cerebral artery with thermocoagulation method, and the expression of IL-6 in brain tissue and serum was measured with radio-immunologic method.[Result] Compared with the normal group, the expression of IL-6 in brain tissue and serum in the ischemia group at 3,6,12,24 hours after cerebral ischemia was all significantly increased(P<0.01).Compared with the ischemia group at the same time periods, the IL-6 expression in brain tissue in the acupuncture group at 3,6,12 hours after acupuncture treatment was significantly reduced(P<0.01),and was obviously lower than that in normal group(P<0.01).After cerebral ischemia, the serum IL-6 expression sharply increased after three hours.Compared with the sham operation group and the normal group at the same time periods, the serum IL-6 expression in the ischemia group at 3,6,12 hours was significantly increased(P<0.01).Compared with the ischemia group at the same time periods, the serum IL-6 content in the acupuncture group at 3,6,12 hours after treatment was significantly reduced(P<0.01).The serum IL-6 expression in the acupuncture group at 24 and 48 hours was obviously increased, and compared with the normal group and the sham operation group it had significant difference.(P<0.01).[Conclusion] Through regulating IL-6,the acupuncture can exert its anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective effect, and can promote the recovery of the injured neurons. That may be one of the effect mechanisms of acupuncture for treating ischemic cerebral apoplexy.
