Abstract
[Objective] To evaluate the effect and safety of acupotomy for improving the pain symptom in patients with knee osteoarthritis.[Methods] One hundred and eighty patients were randomly assigned to acupotomy group(n=90) and electro-acupuncture(EA) group(n=90),and received acupotomy and EA treatment for 3 weeks respectively.Walking pain and stair activity pain were evaluated at baseline and after treatment and a following-up of 6 months using the ADL scoring method, the safety of acupotomy was evaluated at the same time.[Results] Walking pain and stair activity pain score were raised after treatment and at following-up period of 6 months than baseline(P0.01).The D-value between after treatment or a following-up of 6 months and baseline in acupotomy group were greater than EA group on walking pain and stair activity pain(P0.01).The curative effect level distribution after treatment and at a following-up period of 6 months of acupotomy group were better than EA group(P0.01).[Conclusion] Acupotomy therapy can effectively and safely improve the pain symptom of knee osteoarthritis.
