Curative effect of acupuncture combined with herbal medicine on pneumonia complicated with intestinal dysfunction in 28 elderly patients |

Abstract
|
[Objective] To observe the therapeutic efficacy of the integrated TCM and Western medicine for patients with pneumonia complicated by intestinal dysfunction.[Methods] Fifty-six patients were randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the intervention group.Each group had 28 patients.The control group received conventional Western medicine.The intervention group,apart from taking conventional Western medicine,was also given herbal medicine Xuanbai Chengqi decoction combining with acupuncture on Guanyuan(RN4),Zusanli(ST36),Xiajuxu(ST39),etc.The symptoms and therapeutic efficacy two seeks after treatment were observed.[Results] After treatment,in the intervention group 14 cases were cured,12 cases improved,2 cases were inefficient,while in the control group 8 cases cured,11 cases improved and 9 cases inefficient.Although the duration of follow-up survey for the intervention group was shorter,according to the changes of the relevant symptoms and physical signs it was demonstrated that both the two groups are effective in treating pneumonia complicated by intestinal dysfunction and the efficacy of the intervention group was more significant.[Conclusion] Acupuncture with herbal medicine has good efficacy on treating pneumonia complicated by intestinal dysfunction. |
