Abstract
[Objective] To explore the influence of fire needle on sports ability and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) after spinal cord injury. [Methods] Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model and fire-needle groups. The modified Allen's method was adopted to prepare the spinal cord injured model. After the operation, fire needle were applied to the upper and lower spinous process intervals of the injured segment in rats immediately and once every 24 h afterwards in fire needle group, and with the same grasp of rats in the two left groups at corresponding time point. The BBB scoring standard was used to evaluate the behavioral score and the specimens were taken in different stages after 1, 3, 5 and 7 d of injury. The changes of the expression of BDNF after spinal cord injury in rats of each group were detected by immunohistochemical method. [Results] According to the BBB scores, all the scores of fire needle group are higher than those of model group at each time point, especially 7 days after modeling and intervention with more obvious effects (P<0.05). Compared with sham operation group, the expressions of BDNF in the model group and fire needle group were significantly increased at each time point, and the expressions of BDNF in fire needle group were higher than those in model group in 3, 5 and 7 d. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The correlation analysis between BBB scores and the expressions of BDNF showed that they were highly related. [Conclusion] Fire needle therapy can promote the recovery of sports ability after spinal cord injury in rats, and the mechanism is related to the expression of BDNF.
