Observation of clinical curative effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Abstract
    [Objective] To observe the effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture method for treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. [Methods] The 200 children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder were randomly divided into acupuncture group of 120 cases and drug group of 80 cases. Acupuncture group was treated by Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture therapy, drug group with ritalin treating for 3 months. Before treatment evaluation of 18 ADHD items of symptom in DSM-IV and hyperactivity index assessment were performed. After treatment evaluation of 18 ADHD items of symptom in DSM-IV, hyperactivity index assessment and Conners measuring scale were observed. [Results] After treatment, the total effective rate of acupuncture and drug group was 89.2% and 78.8% respectively with a significant difference between them. The improvement of hyperactivity index score before and after treatment was significant(P<0.01) with significant difference between these two groups. The acupuncture group was obviously better than the drug group. [Conclusion] The curative effect of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture method on children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is obvious, and it is superior to oral ritalin.
