Abstract
[Objective] To observe the clinical effect of acupoint catgut embedding therapy on patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the effect on sex hormones and insulin resistance. [Methods] Sixty patients with PCOS were divided into catgut embedding group and electro-acupuncture group randomly, 30 patients for each group. The catgut embedding group was treated by acupoint catgut embedding therapy (once a week), and the electro-acupuncture group was treated by electro-acupuncture therapy everyday, lasting for three months without any intermittent. The changes of the patients' menstruation, body mass index (BMI), waistline, hairy scores, acne scores, and the changes of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone (T), fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin (FINS) were analyzed before and after treatment. [Results] After comparing the effect before and after treatment, it was found that there were obvious differences in the improvement of the menstruation of patients in the catgut embedding group (P<0.05), and the BMI, waistline, hairy scores, acne scores, LH, LH/FSH, FBG and HOMA-IR were decreased significantly. After treatment, there was no obvious differences between two groups (P>0.05). [Conclusion] The acupoint catgut embedding therapy can relieve the body weight of patients with PCOS effectively, improve the situation of the endocrine and the insulin resistance. The procedure is more easier handled, needs less time for the treating and it can also reduce the times to go to the hospital to see doctors. The acupoint catgut embedding therapy is worthy for clinical popularization and application.
