Abstract
[Objective] To calculate the critical micelle concentration of glycyrrhizic acid and explore the solubilizing mechanism of glycyrrhizic acid to puerarin, by measuring the amount of puerarin and glycyrrhizic acid and the surface tension of solution in single decoction of pueraria and glycyrrhiza and their mixed decoction of different proportions. [Methods] The HPLC procedure was performed for measuring the amount of puerarin and glycyrrhizic acid, and the surface tension of solution was measured by Wilhelmy plate method. [Results] When the ratio of pueraria and glycyrrhiza was 5:3, the dissolution of puerarin reached maximum, and the critical micelle concentration of glycyrrhizic acid was 0.18 g/L, which was affected by the structure of drug and the pH value of solution.[Conclusion] Glycyrrhizic acid has surface activity, and it can increase the solubility of puerarin when its concentration reaches the critical micelle concentration.
