Abstract
[Objective] To observe the clinical therapeutic effect on Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the effect of immune function of AD patients by Sanjiao acupuncture.[Methods] The 32 cases of healthy old people and 30 cases of AD patients were collected. AD patients were acupunctured by Sanjiao acupuncture, with the acupoints of Shanzhong, Zhongwan, Qihai, Xuehai, Zusanli and Waiguan. Healthy old people group was just as control. Mini-mental state examination (MMSE), clinical dementia rating scale (CDR), the geriatric dementia assessment scale (ADAS-cog) and the daily living activity scale (ADL) were used to evaluate the cognitive function, the non-cognitive function and the daily living ability of patients respectively. And flow cytometry and ELISA assay were used to detect CD3+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+T cell numbers, CD4+/CD8+ ratio, and IgG, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IFN-γ level.[Results] After acupuncture, MMSE score of AD group was increased, and CDR, ADAS-cog and ADL score was decreased (P<0.05). In AD group, the numbers of CD3+ and CD8+T cells were decreased compared to the healthy group, while the number of CD4+T cells was increased. After acupuncture, the number of CD3+T cells was increased (P<0.05). When compared to the healthy group, the levels of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IFN-γ in AD group were increased (P<0.05), while IgG was not significantly changed (P>0.05), and after acupuncture the levels of cytokines were decreased (P<0.05).[Conclusion] Sanjiao acupuncture could improve dementia symptoms of AD patients, which might by related to regulating the immune function of patients.
