Correlation of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome and traditional Chinese medicine constitution in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome

Abstract
    [Objective] To observe the correlation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome and TCM constitution in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).[Methods] PCOS patients were collected from the out-patient in department of gynecology of First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. TCM constitution types and TCM syndromes were identified for all cases. It was observed that whether or not different TCM syndromes were distributed in different TCM constitution types.[Results] Two hundred and sixty-three cases of PCOS who were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. The main TCM syndrome types were syndrome of phlegm-dampness due to spleen deficiency (83 cases, 31.6%), syndrome of kidney deficiency and liver stagnation(77cases, 29.3%), syndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis (70 cases, 26.6%) and syndrome of kidney deficiency and blood stasis (33 cases, 12.5%). The main TCM constitution types were qi deficiency constitution (74 cases, 28.1%), blood-stasis constitution (53 cases, 20.2%) and phlegm-dampness constitution (51 cases, 19.4%).All of the three TCM syndromes had statistical differences in the distributions of TCM constitutions. The syndrome of phlegm-dampness was mainly distributed in qi deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution. The syndrome of kidney deficiency and liver stagnation was mainly distributed in qi deficiency constitution and qi depression constitution. The syndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis was mainly distributed in blood-stasis constitution and phlegm dampness constitution. The syndrome of kidney deficiency and blood stasis was mainly distributed in blood stasis constitution and qi deficiency constitution.[Conclusion] Different TCM syndromes of PCOS have difference in the distribution of TCM constitution types. The specific of TCM Constitution effect TCM syndrome types.
