Analysis about differences in quality of life between the overweight and obese people with qi deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution

Abstract
    [Objective] In the background of prevalence of overweight and obesity, discuss whether there is a difference in the quality of life between the overweight and obese people with qi deficiency constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution.[Methods] The 548 cases of overweight qi deficiency, 418 cases of overweight phlegm-dampness, 153 cases of obesity qi deficiency, 167 cases of obesity phlegm-dampness, were selected to be subjects. The mean scores of 8 dimensions, 2 domains and the total scales between qi deficiency constitution cases and phlegm-dampness constitution cases in the overweight groups, the obesity groups, the overweight and obesity groups, as well as the least squares mean scores after adjusting the confounding factors, were compared.[Results] The independent samples t test showed that in the overweight groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower scores in general health dimension and vitality dimension than phlegm-dampness constitution cases. In the obesity groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower scores in physical functioning dimension, role-physical dimension, general health dimension, vitality dimension, role-emotional dimension, mental health dimension, physical component summary, mental component summary, and total scales than phlegm-dampness constitution cases. In the overweight and obesity groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower scores in physical functioning dimension, role-physical dimension, general health dimension, vitality dimension, physical component summary and total scales than phlegm-dampness constitution cases. In the overweight and obesity groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower scores in physical functioning dimension, role-physical dimension, general health dimension, vitality dimension, physical component summary and total scales than phlegm-dampness constitution cases. After adjusting confounding factors, in the obesity groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower least squares mean scores in physical functioning dimension, role-physical dimension, vitality dimension, role-emotional dimension, mental health dimension, physical component summary, mental component summary, and total scales than phlegm-dampness constitution cases. In the overweight and obesity groups, qi deficiency constitution cases had lower least squares mean scores in role-physical dimension and vitality dimension.[Conclusion] Although qi deficiency and phlegm-dampness are the two common constitution types in overweight and obesity people, the advantages about overweight and obesity people with qi deficiency suggested that we should strengthen the attention in the periods of constitution care and weight management.
