Abstract
[Objective] To evaluate the effectiveness of moxibustion for low back pain of primary osteoporosis (PO).[Methods] Clinical randomized controlled trials of moxibustion for low back pain of PO were searched from database of CNKI,Wan Fang,VIP,CBM, PubMed, Web of Science and The Cochrane library up to December 2017. Randomized controlled trials of moxibustion were compared with medicine treatment. Meta-analysis was performed using software RevMan 5.3.[Results] A total of 11 studies involving 842 cases were included in the study. Meta-analysis suggested that moxibustion treatment was more effective than medicine on relieving low back pain[SMD=-1.99,95%CI(-2.76,-1.22),P<0.000 01], increasing the TCM syndrome integral[SMD=-0.72,95%CI(-1.07,-0.36),P<0.000 1] and improving the effective rate of TCM syndrome integral[RR=1.15,95%CI(1.06,1.24),P=0.000 5]. Moxibustion treatment was as effective as medicine on clinical efficacy[RR=1.25,95%CI(0.90,1.73),P=0.18] and increasing the bone mineral density of lumbar spine[SMD=0.30,95%CI(-0.37,0.96),P=0.38].[Conclusion] The existing research results indicate that moxibustion is superior to medicine in the treatment for low back pain of primary osteoporosis, and it can promote the effect of medicine. The efficacy of moxibustion in improving lumbar bone mineral density is comparable to the medicine. However, because of the low quality of the research, more high-qualified clinical randomized controlled trials are still needed.
