| Abstract

| [Objective] To investigate the therapeutic effect of food therapy combined with traditional Chinese medicine of Jianian Huangqi Decoction on senile functional constipation (FC).[Methods] The 92 elderly FC patients admitted to Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from April 2015 to August 2017 were selected, and were divided into observation group and control group according to random number table (46 cases in each group). The control group was treated with Jiajian Huangqi Decoction, and based on this, the observation group received food therapy. The curative effect, constipation-related clinical symptoms and PCA-QOL scores before and after treatment were compared between two groups.[Results] The total effective rate of observation group was significantly higher than that of control group (91.30% vs 76.09%, P<0.05). In the two groups after treatment in patients with defecation frequency and time defecate, excrement character, abdominal distension and difficult defecation score and PAC-QOL scores are lower than before treatment (P<0.05), and the observation group of defecation frequency and defecation time, excrement character, abdominal distension and difficult defecation score and PAC-QOL score than the control group improved significantly (P<0.05).[Conclusion] The food therapy combined with Jiajian Huangqi Decoction is an effective treatment method to ameliorate the constipation-related clinical symptoms and improve the quality of life for senile FC. |
