Abstract
[Objective] To investigate the protective effects of the water extract of Callicarpa kwangtungensis Chun on acute non-infectious rat pharyngitis induced by pyridine.[Methods] SD rats were randomly divided into five groups, which are include low and high dose of the water extract of Callicarpa kwangtungensis Chun and pyridine groups (500, 1 000 mg/kg, ig), dexamethasone and pyridine group (4 mg/kg, ig), normal control group and pyridine model group. SD rats were injected with Evans Blue via tail vein, followed rats were smeared with 10% pyridine in the pharynx. The normal control group rats were smeared with the same volume of sterile saline water. After 1 h, these rats were sacrificed, the pharyngeal tissues of rats were photographed and isolated for the detection of EB exudation. The main organs of rats were separated and weighed. The hematoxylin-eosin staining method was used to observe the pathological changes of the pharyngeal tissues of rats.[Results] Compared with the normal control group rats, the pyridine model rats shown several pathological characteristics, a significantly increase of EB exudation and the infiltration of inflammatory cells was observed in the pharyngeal tissues, as well as the irregular arrangement, hypertrophy and rupture of the mucous gland cells were also obtained in the pharyngeal tissues, which was accompanied with bleeding. Compared with the pyridine model group rats, an obviously decrease of EB exudation and the infiltration of inflammatory cells was observed in the pharyngeal tissues of experimental drugs group rats and the positive control dexamethasone group rats.[Conclusion] The water extract of Callicarpa kwangtungensis Chun has a protective effect on acute non-infectious pharyngitis induced by pyridine.
