Abstract
|
Tryptophan metabolism is a highly controlled physiological process, and the kynurenine pathway viewed as the main pathway for tryptophan metabolism which is involved in a series of enzymatic reactions. The metabolites generated in the process are called "kynurenine substances". More and more studies showed that the kynurenine substances are strongly related to the pathogenesis and advancement of nervous system diseases, for example, the neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease,Huntington disease and Alzheimer's disease. In this review,we summarized the tryptophan-kynurenine metabolic pathways, the neurobiology active substances generated in this process and relationship with the related nervous system diseases and the traditional Chinese medicine intervention on these targets with the aim to provide the strategies and hints for the therapy of nervous system diseases. |
