Abstract
“Symptom” is the most specific element in the diagnosis system of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). The key to standardizing symptom information lies in the clear understanding of “symptom”. This article systematically analyzes the connotation of “symptom in traditional Chinese medicine, and discusses the main problems existing in the standardization of “symptom, such as the lack of a unified standard, different opinions from different families, and the confusion of Chinese and Western medicine. The irregularity of TCM symptom information hinders clinical and scientific research of TCM to a certain extent, and is not conducive to the exchange of TCM techniques and the modernization of TCM diagnostics. Therefore,it is proposed to standardize the description of traditional Chinese medicine “symptom from the aspects of clear definition of disease names, unified standardized disease names, division of complex disease names, differentiation of symptoms severity, avoidance of diagnostic symptoms, and inclusion of objective indications. Through the establishment of a system standard system, the quantitative classification of “symptom, the standardization of the information collection process, and the use of microscopic indicators to carry out standardized research on TCM “symptom.
