Abstract
[Objective] Toevaluate the effect of regular Baduanjin exercise on recovery of disability status and activities of daily living in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD).[Methods] Fifty-eight patients with NMOSD were recruited and they were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 29 patients in each group. The experimental group was given conventional medication+basic training+Baduanjin intervention, and the control group was given conventional medication+basic training. The course of treatment was 12 weeks. The changes of expanded disability status scale (EDSS) score,Barthel index,Ashworth score and fatigue severity scale (FSS) score were compared between two groups.[Results] In the experimental group, the patients' EDSS score,Barthel index,Ashworth score, and FSS score were significantly improved compared with those before intervention, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the improvement of EDSS score and Barthel index were statistically significant (P<0.05). In the control group, the Barthel index,Ashworth score, and FSS score of the patients were significantly improved compared with those before intervention (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the improvementdegreeof EDSS score,Barthel index,Ashworth score, and FSS score in the experimental group were more significant, all in line with P<0.05.[Conclusion] Regular Baduanjin intervention can significantly improve the disabilitystatus, activities of daily living, limb spasm degreeand fatigue state of patients with NMOSD,which is suitable for clinical application.
